Wessex League Division One: leaders New Milton Town held by bottom club Totton & Eling

The week in Wessex League Division One was best summed up at Miller Park, where table-topping New Milton Town met bottom club Totton & Eling and came away with a point. According to the Brickies' match report, they went behind in the 27th minute when Alfie Roberts nipped in after a short back-pass, and Niall Dixon levelled nine minutes later with a volley from Jake Carswell's cross. After the interval, the report says, three efforts struck the woodwork, from Louis Whetton, Dixon and Callum McHale, yet the home side held on in a five- and six-man defence. It was only their fourth point of the season.

Manager Jamie Kay's side stay top because second-placed Ringwood Town did not play, and the report puts the lead at one point with two games in hand. "We created loads of chances," the club's manager said afterwards. "We've just got to learn, review, reflect, develop and get better." Totton & Eling described themselves as a young side, and Roberts' goal means they remain unbeaten at Miller Park, according to the club.

The afternoon's other results were less tidy. Colden Common and Hedge End Rangers drew 4-4, a match Hedge End Rangers said featured a red card, injuries and a penalty, with the hosts the happier side after playing more than half the game with ten men. A Colden Common player was taken away by ambulance, and both clubs have since turned attention to Harvey Clark. Colden Common issued an update on his condition and a fundraising link, and Hamworthy United shared the same appeal ahead of Saturday's meeting between the two.

Elsewhere across the division, Blandford United lost 3-2 at home to Sandhurst Town, with Beau Oliphant scoring the winner, though the hosts said they had the best attendance in the whole league. AFC Aldermaston beat Newport (IOW) 2-1 through goals from Jehmiel and Pele. Alresford Town beat Hamworthy United 2-1, Amesbury Town beat Lymington Town 2-1, and Cove won 2-0 against Romsey Town.

In the Russell Cotes Cup, Ringwood Town travelled to Premier Division Cowes Sports for a second successive tie against higher-division opposition, having beaten Hythe & Dibden 3-1 in the previous round. New Milton Town now look to the FA Vase, and the club says its first coach to Downton on Saturday 31 October is already full, with a second being arranged if demand allows.
