Tring Athletic beat Kings Langley as Vase week looms over the Spartan South Midlands

The week's clearest marker of form came at the Michael Anthony Stadium, where Tring Athletic beat Kings Langley 3-0 in what the club called the A41 derby. According to Tring's match report, it stayed goalless at half-time before George Devine headed in nine minutes into the second half, Harry Shepherd added a second in the 58th minute, and substitute Blake Argent tapped in his first goal of the season in the 73rd. The crowd of 313 was, the club said, its highest since the play-off semi-final in April 2025.

The report put the winning run at six games, with 17 goals scored and one conceded. Max Hercules was man of the match and, by the club's count, has eight goals and ten assists from 11 appearances. The result came days after Kings Langley had beaten league leaders Risborough Rangers 2-1 in midweek, both goals by Louie Collier, according to Tring's account. That defeat, the Risborough Rangers programme said, ended the home side's unbeaten league run, and Gary Meakin's team then beat Aylesbury Vale Dynamos... in the programme's build-up the fixture was previewed as a meeting with a side on four straight wins. The club's later post recorded a 5-0 win at the CMG Stadium before 223 supporters.

The FA Vase first round proper is up next. Kings Langley travel to Roffey on Friday 9 October, with a coach leaving at 16:30. On Saturday 10 October Tring Athletic host Kennington, Risborough Rangers host Soul Tower Hamlets, Wormley Rovers host Eynesbury Rovers, and Newport Pagnell Town visit Hertford Heath. Colney Heath travel to Stowmarket Town after a 3-3 draw at Dunstable, a result that moved them up to fourth.

Dunstable also completed a comeback this week, running out 3-2 winners. At Arlesey Town, Harlow Town won 3-0 on a day when the attendance was 185, while Baldock Town lost 2-1 to Harpenden Town on a Tuesday night. Kempston Rovers and Wormley drew 1-1.

Elsewhere in the cups, results were mixed. Aylesbury Vale Dynamos lost 2-1 to Sandhurst in the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup, while Newport Pagnell Town progressed in that competition and beat Enfield 2-0 in the Gladwish Challenge Trophy. Sawbridgeworth Town drew 2-2 with Stortford and went to penalties.
