Southport appoint Calum McIntyre as new manager

Southport have appointed Calum McIntyre as their new manager.

McIntyre, who is 33, was appointed Chester manager in May 2022. According to Southport, he led the club to two National League North play-offs, recorded their highest points totals in over a decade and reached the 2024/25 play-off final.

He also guided Chester to the FA Cup first round proper twice and set a club record of 23 away league games unbeaten. He was named National League North Manager of the Year in 2023 and won three Manager of the Month awards during his time there.

McIntyre left Chester in February 2026, with his contract due to expire at the end of the 2025/26 season. He had spent 14 years at the club, starting as a junior coach in 2011. His first job in management came at Runcorn Linnets at the age of 26, where he spent two years.

Southport said he will be one of the youngest managers to have taken charge at Haig Avenue. The club added that they wish him "every success in the role as he looks to guide the club up the table".
