Southern League week defined by cup upsets and unbeaten runs

Exmouth Town forced an FA Cup second qualifying round replay against Thame United after Ross Edwards headed home a 94th-minute equaliser to seal a 3-3 draw and set up a midweek decider at the Search4Local Stadium. Both sides had chances to settle it in normal time, with Tom Bath converting a penalty for Town before Thame hit back twice through Harry Alexander and Greg Hackett, only for Edwards to have the final word.

Bishops Cleeve bowed out of the FA Cup with defeat to Tadley Calleva, Brad Neal's header proving decisive despite Reegan Messenger and Charlie Holliday's earlier heroics against Poole Town and Wallingford & Crowmarsh. The Mitres switched competitions swiftly, travelling to Slimbridge in the Gloucestershire Senior Challenge Cup just days later.

In Division One Central, Didcot Town continued to set the pace, making it six wins from six games with a 6-0 thrashing of Flackwell Heath after Owen James had earlier scored the only goal in a 1-0 win at Barton Rovers. Adam Learoyd was named Player of the Match for a commanding defensive display alongside Luke Carnell.

Paulton Rovers remain without a league win after being held goalless by Bideford, a game short on clear-cut chances until Ryan Turner's late red card left the hosts to see out the closing stages with ten men. Paulton's cup exertions continued in midweek with a defeat at Nailsea United in the Francis Hillier Cup, a much-changed side conceding a goal in the first half before Tom Bradley's dismissal, followed by a second Nailsea goal late on.

Hartpury moved up to 11th in Division One South courtesy of back-to-back wins, Morgan Ewing's brace and a Louis Manning strike seeing off Willand Rovers 3-2 before the Acorns hosted newly promoted Worcester Raiders, who themselves had impressed with a 4-0 win over Slimbridge featuring goals from Jordan Murphy, Sam Kelly, Adam Taylor and Prince Henry.

Shaftesbury snapped a losing run in some style, beating Worcester Raiders 3-0 at Cockrams through goals from Charlie Rayfield, Brett Pitman and Kyle Tooze, manager Josh Staunton drawing a line under a tough opening to the campaign that had included defeats to Exmouth Town and Weymouth.

In Division One Central, Welwyn Garden City produced the result of the week, thrashing Stotfold 5-0 to move up to third, Brad Dixon-Smith's 30-yard opener setting the tone before Ethan Rookard, Tyreece Robertson, Evaristo Mendes and a Kendall Gyamfi penalty completed the rout. It followed a dramatic stoppage-time draw at Biggleswade Town, where Ryan Barrett's injury-time leveller salvaged a point after Biggleswade Town had gone down to ten men.

Marlow claimed a stoppage-time winner of their own against Biggleswade Town, Chris Lutonadio scoring twice including a 92nd-minute strike from range after Rio Dasilva and Toby Raggett had earlier found the net in a seesawing encounter at Langford Road.

At Weymouth, the unbeaten start to the season continued with a goalless draw at Hungerford Town, leaving the Terras just short of matching a club record of six straight league wins to open a campaign, a feat last achieved in 1960.
