Sharpness beat the leaders, then edge Shortwood in a seven-goal midweek tie

Sharpness took centre stage in the Hellenic League this week. On Saturday 17 October the first team beat Alcester Town 2-1 at Hamfields. Alcester were billed in the club's own preview as league leaders, and the club described the result as a great advert for Hellenic League football. Will Tainton and Mikey Bryant scored. C. Crook scored Alcester's consolation as the Romans fell to an away defeat.

On Tuesday, Sharpness hosted Shortwood United and won 4-3, with Bryant and J. Tainton each scoring twice according to the home side. Shortwood United listed Asamoah Afriyie with two and Rogers Andango as their scorers. It followed a Floodlit Cup penalty shoot-out win the previous week, and the club also announced that Jordan, whose penalty save settled that tie, has a new sponsor for 2026/27 in SP Transport Solutions.

The Floodlit Cup supplied most of Tuesday's other business. Alcester Town won 3-2 against Lydney Town at Stratford Road, with Jake Wicketts, Adam Taylor and George Davis named in the club's report. Bromyard Town beat Bewdley Town 4-2 to reach the next round, with goals credited to Hollylee, Smith, Clarke and Bellamy. Jack Bailey and Jack Bissell scored for Bewdley. Newent Town beat Ludlow Town 2-0, while Chipping Sodbury Town will travel to Bradford Town on 3 November after their earlier win over Shortwood United. Sharpness are drawn away to Mangotsfield United on the same date.

In the league, Bewdley Town beat Redditch Borough 1-0 on Saturday through a Will Dearlove goal. Bromyard Town lost 2-1 at Wantage Town, ending a five-match unbeaten league run, and blamed missed chances and a sin bin. Cheltenham Saracens beat Ludlow 4-1 and travel to Stonehouse Town this weekend.

Carterton drew 2-2 with Brimscombe & Thrupp on Saturday, with Kyle Chester and Zach Scott on the scoresheet, though the club felt decisions went against them.
