Runcorn Linnets make Welsh player-manager and Wylie Assistant as Prescot Cables add Spinelli and Tioffo

Runcorn Linnets have appointed skipper Jacques Welsh as player-manager until the end of the season, with vice-captain Peter Wylie named as assistant player-manager on a similar basis.

The club said the pair have made 477 Linnets appearances between them and had been in interim charge for a fortnight. It added that they had "lifted the mood around the club and got the best out of the squad, despite it still being affected by injuries".

Chairman Peter Cartledge said: "In that time we have seen a significant improvement in the form and performances of the team and a general uplift in morale in and around the club.

"We believe this is the right move. It's one that many fans have already been asking for and we have no doubt that Jacques and Pete will have 100% backing going forward."
