Romford mark 150 years with win as Essex Senior League week turns
Romford chose the weekend of their 150th anniversary to extend a home run. Jaxon Brown's first-half penalty and a Harrison Day header after the break beat Clapton Community 2-0 at Mayesbrook Park, a third consecutive home league win in which Boro have scored six and conceded none. The club said the fixture was the centrepiece of its celebrations, with a commemorative programme, pin badges and a collection for the Collier Row & Romford Foodbank.

The game itself, by the club's own account, was light on chances. Brown won the spot-kick himself and scored his eighth of the season, and Day's was his fifth goal in three starts. Clapton had the best opening when James Goldring hit the outside of a post from the penalty spot in the 37th minute, and Adam Sidky was sin-binned for protesting the earlier award. It was a fifth away league defeat for Clapton by Romford's count of five from five, all of them on the road. Romford had also beaten Basildon United 1-0 on Tuesday through Kian Cocking's goal, a result that took them to ninth.
Basildon's Saturday was far worse. They lost 7-0 at Heybridge Swifts, going down to ten men after 60 minutes when their goalkeeper was sent off, according to the club. Swifts say they are unbeaten in the league.

At Woodford Town, the week ended with the departure by mutual consent of first-team manager Shane Baptiste, after a 4-0 defeat to Hullbridge Sports on Friday. Coaches Tucker O'Donoghue and Jamie O'Donoghue take charge for the trip to Barking on Tuesday, with a permanent appointment to follow in due course. SOUL Tower Hamlets also had a new man in the dugout: Glen Kendall's first game ended in a 2-0 defeat at White Ensign, where George Briton-Watkins scored both goals, in the 53rd and 62nd minutes.
Elsewhere, Great Wakering Rovers recovered from a 6-0 Essex Senior Cup defeat at Dagenham & Redbridge with a 1-0 win at Hackney Wick, captain Mitchell Arthur scoring midway through the second half. Hutton beat Halstead Town 1-0 for a fourth straight win, Chukwuka Eseka scoring the only goal, and Saffron Walden Town came back from three down to draw 4-4 with Ilford on Wednesday, Jack Clark equalising in stoppage time. Ilford had beaten Benfleet 3-2 on Friday.

Clapton are next at home to West Essex on Tuesday, a fixture moved because West Essex were in the FA Vase. They will arrive from a 0-0 draw at home to Barking.
