A brace from Jacob Priestnall earned Hallam a first league win of the season and heap the pressure on Ashington boss Marc Ellison.
Hallam’s management duo James and Richard Patterson demanded their side target Colliers’ right back Rory Powell, and from the first whistle they created numerous chances from his side.
In the opening seven minutes the Sheffield outfit saw two chances cleared off the line, and forced a smart save from Ashington goalkeeper Alexander before Priestnall bagged his first of the game with a curled finish into the bottom corner.
Ashington grew into the half and should have equalised shortly after going behind when a free-flowing passing move ended with Oliver Thompson baring down on goal, although his finish hit the post and drifted away from danger.
Star-man Priestnall doubled Hallam’s advantage shortly after the hour mark. Dan Groves’ attempt to win the ball rebounded off the forward who found himself one-on-one with Alexander, and dispatched neatly to complete his brace
Noah Cunningham halved the deficit for Ashington in stoppage time with a neat drive in the bottom corner, but it was too little too late for the visitors.
