Maidstone United have agreed outline terms for the sale of a controlling interest in the club, the board said in an update to supporters signed by Oliver Ash and Terry Casey.
The prospective investors are undertaking what the board described as detailed financial, legal and operational due diligence, which it called "entirely normal in transactions of this nature, although it can be both complex and time-consuming". The club said it had focused its discussions on one group, whose people it described as experienced football club owners, after a fresh wave of investor interest in recent weeks. It did not name them.
The board acknowledged the process had taken longer than it first hoped but said it was now moving in a positive direction. Discussions remain confidential, though the club is hopeful that, if progress continues as expected, it will be able to share further news before the end of the year. The stated objective is investment that brings additional financial strength, strategic expertise and ambition.
On the pitch, the board said the club sit third in the table and remain in the promotion picture, while noting that recent results have been mixed. It also reported rising attendances compared with last season. No major stadium developments are planned this season at the Gallagher Stadium, with the club choosing to consolidate after significant investment in projects over the past year.
