Maidenhead Town lose twice in five days as September ends

Maidenhead Town went into the final weekend of September knowing it had been a difficult month. By their own account they were 13th on 17 points, while Edgware & Kingsbury, in 19th, had eight. The home side took the points. Zeiani and Greaver put the Wares 2-0 up inside 28 minutes, and Maidenhead pulled one back on 37 minutes. Greaver then scored his second from a corner on 79 minutes. Alan Adams scored for the visitors and was named their Man of the Match, and the club thanked the supporters who battled the traffic to get there.

The next test came on Wednesday 30 September, at home to Brook House. Maidenhead lost 3-2 and said they pressed throughout the closing stages without finding an equaliser, even sending goalkeeper Alex Collie forward for a free kick and a corner. George Fairbairn, who scored what the club called an absolute screamer to make it 3-2, took the Man of the Match award.

The Brook House result was their second in the week. Earlier, they had beaten Eagles Benfica 3-0.

At Step 6 elsewhere, Oxhey Jets came from behind three times to draw 3-3 with Molesey. Wembley beat Holmer Green 2-1 in front of 106 people, and Westside won 2-0 against Spartans Youth. PFC Victoria won 3-0 against FC Deportivo Galicia, and Colliers Wood United beat Shepherd's Bush 3-1. Spelthorne Sports Club drew 1-1 at Bovingdon, and their own report was headed by the word "Disappointed", saying it should have been a comfortable away win.

Wembley named Ned Jones as their September Player of the Month, and are running a presale for an 80th anniversary shirt that closes on 5 October. Spartans Youth said they want to climb the table while keeping their FA Vase run going.

Maidenhead's next game is Saturday 3 October at the 1878 Stadium against PFC Victoria, whom they describe as one of the Division One leaders. On the same day Brook House visit Molesey, who have a programme and a packed autumn of club events lined up, starting with an Oktoberfest on 10 October.
