Lordswood were the week's reference point. They beat Welling Town 7–1 at home on Saturday 19 September, and by the end of the week Tooting Bec were describing them as "the league leaders" ahead of Saturday's visit to the NRT Stadium. That game will be the first meeting between the sides since the League Cup Final.
For Welling Town it was a bruising run. Their FA Vase journey ended with a 2–0 defeat at Jarvis Brook, and the club said it would turn its attention back to the league. The trip to Lordswood was billed as a chance to respond. Instead the club called it "a night to forget". Their next First Division fixture, away to Halls, was then postponed on the night, with a new date to be confirmed. Halls reacted on social media with "Predictable. Embarrassing. Lack of Leadership. Match OFF tonight". Earlier in the week Halls had lost 4–0 at Tooting Bec.
On the same Saturday FC Elmstead won 2–0 at Stansfeld. Four days later they beat Banstead Athletic 2–1 in front of 78 people at the Yeomans Community Stadium. Banstead Athletic had already lost 2–1 at Minster.
At Step 6 a late goal can matter as much as a heavy win. Rochester United beat Sheppey Sports 1–0 on Tuesday with a late winner, watched by 120. Bridon Ropes lost 2–1 to Lewisham Borough in the South London derby, with Harry Bunclark's 82nd-minute winner coming after what the home club said was "more than a hint of offside". David Makisi scored his first goal since returning to the club, and debut goalkeeper Oli Ogosi made four saves at 1–1. Sporting Club Thamesmead came from 2–0 down at Greenways to draw 2–2, with Alfie Curnow and Andrea Carrera scoring within two minutes, in the 85th and 87th.
Croydon lost 2–3 to Hythe Town in a meeting of two unbeaten sides. The crowd of 271 was the club's best at Croydon Sports Arena this season. Croydon host Rochester United this Saturday, and their fixture with Lydd Town has moved to 10 October.
Several clubs are pitching to fans with no Premier League football on. Bridon Ropes are selling £1 tickets for the visit of Minster and are launching a new programme, The Ropes. Banstead Athletic welcome Stansfeld.
At Greenways, the club announced that JT has returned.
