Leaders Westfields humbled as cup competitions grip Hellenic League

Few results in the Hellenic League Premier Division this season will have raised eyebrows quite like Westfields 0-6 Highworth Town. The home side, reduced to nine men after just fourteen minutes, were beaten heavily by a Highworth Town team recording their first league win of the campaign, with Grieve scoring twice and Gallagher converting a penalty among the goals. Manager Danny Janes was full of praise for his depleted side afterwards, saying he was "so proud of the players for the shift they put in in really difficult circumstances" and noting his bewilderment at the officiating, adding that his players "were clapped off the pitch by the fans which shows how much their efforts were recognised."

Elsewhere in the division, cup competitions dominated the agenda. Mangotsfield United's FA Cup run finally ended after a replay, going down 0-4 at home to Gloucester City having drawn 1-1 in the first meeting, watched by 601 supporters at Cossham Street. The club thanked their fans for their backing across both fixtures before turning attention to the FA Vase, where they were due to travel to Eversley & California. Cirencester Town continued their own cup adventure, beating Fleetlands 3-0 away in the FA Cup before being drawn at home to National League South side Farnham Town, a tie the club described as an occasion to look forward to. Devizes Town's FA Cup journey ended with a 3-0 defeat to Yate Town, with the club thanking their opponents for their hospitality.

In the Premier Division proper, Corsham Town moved to the top of the table with a 3-0 win over Droitwich Spa, a result manager Quentin Townsend of the Saltmen described candidly, saying "there's no disgrace in losing to Corsham, but for me, it's another defeat where we should have been in the game." Corsham Town also marked the official opening of a new stand at The Southbank, with chairman Fran Harvey saying it was "fantastic to finally see the stand officially open and in use."

Royal Wootton Bassett Town remain without a league point at home this season following a 2-1 defeat to Pershore Town 88, a result that left them bottom of the table on two points from seven games. Their women's side fared better, beginning life in the South West Regional Women's Football League Premier Division with a 2-1 win over AEK Boco, Elle Scott's penalty settling a tight contest.

At Cinderford Town, a 1-1 draw with Fairford Town left manager Sooty acknowledging supporters' frustration after a run of three games without a win at home, while Fairford Town thanked Cinderford Town for allowing their director of football, Jody Bevan, to run the line after an assistant could not make it.
