Jarvis Brook's match at Mile Oak on Tuesday 20 October was abandoned after a Jarvis Brook player suffered a serious injury shortly into the 7.30pm kick-off at Portslade Ground. Mile Oak said they were still awaiting an ambulance, wished the player well and thanked Jarvis Brook's medical team, players and coaches for the care they took. The club also said an earlier tweet had been misunderstood and removed it.
The player was not named in the evening's messages. The tributes that followed from other clubs referred to him as Will, and Jarvis Brook later said he had broken his tibia and fibula and would undergo surgery in Brighton, calling it devastating news. AFC Walcountians, Infinity, Loxwood, Mile Oak and Shoreham all sent messages of support.
The abandonment followed a good Saturday for Jarvis Brook, who beat Canfield 6-0 at home. Chidi Ajeh took the man-of-the-match award with a hat-trick, and the club celebrated a clean sheet. Meanwhile, 18-year-old Alfie Gilder spoke of playing in the highest league the club has reached, having come through every age group since he was four. He said he would like ten goals this season.

At Step 6 elsewhere, Dial Square lost their seven-match unbeaten home run on Saturday, Will Ridgway's 49th-minute goal giving Hailsham Town a 1-0 win at Redding Way. Dial responded on Tuesday by beating Loxwood 3-1 away in the first round of the Division One Challenge Cup, coming from behind through goals from Adam Aziz, Aidan Doran and Joshua Adjei. They meet Reigate Priory in the next round.
Reigate Priory had put seven past their opponents on Saturday, with Sam Bull and Tommy McKenna both scoring hat-tricks and Lucas Alloway also on the scoresheet. The club said McKenna was close to becoming the league's top scorer.
Other results: AFC Walcountians won through two goals from C. Ejezie and one from T. Huey-Walker, Selsey beat East Preston 3-2, Mile Oak won 1-0 at Oakwood, and Clanfield reported a 1-0 win. Infinity and Worthing United drew 1-1, and Shoreham lost 4-2 to Dorking Wanderers before their under-23s lost 9-0 at Hassocks.
