Horndean's late winner at Fleetlands starts a run that Brockenhurst's streak overshadows

Horndean's week turned on a single strike. The Deans had lost four consecutive league games and had not won at home all season when Kieran Alcock hit a 20-yard effort into the top corner of Nico Trojanowski's goal one minute into stoppage time against Fleetlands. It made the score 3-2, and it was only Horndean's third league win of the campaign.

The match had swung repeatedly. Joe Briggs put Fleetlands ahead after ten minutes, Henry Searle levelled via a deflection off a Theo Glazier free kick, and Aaron Dunne was sent off on 40 minutes. Millo gave Horndean the lead on 57 minutes, but Craig Kingswell's penalty on 67 minutes made it 2-2 before Alcock won it. Manager Kev Adair described the win as a relief after an end-to-end afternoon.

On Saturday the Deans won 4-1 at Bemerton Heath Harlequins, their first back-to-back league wins of the season. They trailed to a Chris Kapend goal, then Angus Mackay scored two minutes after coming on, Kimi Qhashie put through his own net, Jack Fox scored with what the club called a shot rather than a cross, and Marvin Orepo added a fourth in added time. Horndean then travelled to Hythe and Dibden on Tuesday, and their next fixture is at home to Andover New Street on Saturday 3 October.

Fleetlands bounced back quickly from the defeat. They beat Fareham Town 2-1 on Tuesday through goals from Robinson and Johnson, and the club described it as a huge performance against the league leaders. Callum Mann took the Man of the Match award.

Brockenhurst made quieter progress. A 2-0 win at Downton, with goals from Toby Colmer and Sami Makhloufi, took them up to third, and the club was named 360 Player Club of the Month for September, its first such award in about a decade. The club credited seven straight wins. They had earlier beaten Sandhurst 4-0 in the Wessex League Cup, and on Thursday they beat Broughton 3-1 in the Russell Cotes Cup.

At Step 5 elsewhere, Bashley beat Petersfield Town 5-1 with four first-half goals, Freddie Beeson scoring the Rams' reply, and signed Harry Baker on a season-long loan from Shaftesbury. Laverstock & Ford won 3-2 after scoring twice in a minute at the end, through Jake Watson, Fraser and Kane O'Keefe, then drew 2-2 with Andover New Street. Cowes Sports drew 1-1 with Hamble Club, a game in which John's wonder strike was Man of the Match, after he became the club's second all-time top scorer with two penalties at Hamworthy Recreation. Christchurch began the weekend with one point from nine league games.
