The defending champions did not make it look easy. Penzance, winners of the Walter C Parson Cup for the past two seasons, went to Newton Abbot Spurs short of several regular starters and came away 1-0 winners. Archie Reynolds wore the captain's armband for the first time, and teenage striker Jahmali Prowse made his first start and scored after Spurs keeper Harry Meaden parried a Charlie Willis shot. The woodwork was struck twice in thirty seconds, but the Magpies could not find a second. Spurs went down to ten men when substitute Keaton Hughes was sent off, and sub keeper Will Trenoweth finished the game as an emergency striker. Teenage midfielder Ben Strevens made his debut. The draw, made in the Spurs clubhouse, sends Penzance home to Torrington at Penlee Park on Saturday 5 December.
Penalties settled one tie. Mousehole drew 1-1 with Torridgeside at Trungle Parc and won the shootout 6-5, Lucas Best scoring the equaliser, his third goal in three games for the club. Mousehole say they travel to Elburton Villa next, who beat Teignmouth 3-1 and say they will be at home. Elsewhere, Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police won 3-1 at Dobwalls, who finished with nine men after two dismissals; Elliott Pragnall scored twice for the visitors.
Sticker beat Crediton United 2-0 on their sponsors' day, Cam Bidgood and Sol Wilson scoring. Cullompton Rangers came from behind to beat Holsworthy 3-1, through Josh Coles, Lloyd White and Dave Lee. AFC St Austell beat Wadebridge Town 4-1, and Camelford won 2-1 against Launceston. Callington Town lost 1-0 at home to Bridport, who finished with ten men, as did Callington.
For Honiton Town it was a mixed run. They beat Torridgeside 5-3 on penalties in the FA Vase on 10 October after a 1-1 draw. They then beat Bishops Lydeard 5-1 in midweek, Fin Newell scoring a hat-trick, before losing the cup tie 2-0 to Ilfracombe Town. The club also thanked the league for a swift £250 payment following Jordan Harris's eye injury. Honiton are at Willand Rovers on Wednesday 21 October in the St Luke's Cup.
