Harrowby United reach FA Vase second round for first time as Step 6 sides diverge

Harrowby United reached the second round proper of the FA Vase for the first time in club history, with Harry Johnson scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win at Kirby Muxloe. The club thanked the supporters who travelled in numbers. Their week ended with a 2-1 defeat to Blackstones, and they are due at Sandiacre Town on Saturday.

Southwell City also go into the second round, drawn at home to Rugby Town at Brinkley on Saturday 31 October. Pinxton were not so fortunate. They lost 5-0 to Brocton, and the club's next-up message began with the words "After our FA Vase exit" before a league fixture against Staveley Miners Welfare on Tuesday.

In the league, Clipstone were described as table-toppers by Southwell City ahead of Friday's meeting, and they beat Cotgrave 6-0. Off the pitch they added two players. Lynden Joyce moved permanently from Ilkeston after a dual-registration spell, and Jamie Williamson arrived from Dunkirk. Manager Ian Cotton said Williamson had turned down offers from Step 5, and that losing Jobe for the season had left "a big gap defensively".

Sleaford Town had the week's best finish. Behind to Stapleford after 30 minutes, they levelled when defender Ben Robson drilled in a shot following a corner. Substitute Kyle Onyon then curled in a free kick at 90 minutes for a 2-1 win. Manager Jamie McGhee said the team had been "the better side for the majority of that game" and later announced Calum Law and Kareem Abouraia as new signings, adding that Fin Armond had returned to Lincoln United after a one-game stay. The Greens travel to South Normanton Athletic, who are fourth and have drawn with Clipstone.

Elsewhere, Clifton All Whites beat Gedling Miners Welfare 5-1, with goals credited to Perkins, Wiggins-Thomas, Bowers and Lindsey. Selston won 2-0 against Radford for a first clean sheet of the season, and Ben Moore scored the opener on his 506th appearance, a club record. They then drew 2-2 with Shirebrook Town, who have signed 20-year-old forward Gideon Neto from Holwell Sports.

In the Notts Senior League Cup, Dunkirk reached the third round with a 5-3 penalty shoot-out win over Collingham following a 2-2 draw, ahead of a trip to Maltby Main. In the Derbyshire Cup, Dronfield Town host Glossop North End, Pinxton host Matlock Town and Shirebrook Town host Chesterfield Reserves.
