Handsworth's Mitchell Dunne reaches 100 goals for the club

Handsworth forward Mitchell Dunne became only the second player in the club's history to score 100 goals, reaching the mark from the penalty spot against Penistone Church at the weekend.

According to the club, the goalscoring run began on 31 July 2021, when Dunne marked his return to The Ambers with his first goal against Silsden, also from the spot. Only joint manager Jon Froggatt is ahead of him in the club's scoring charts, with 107. Dunne already holds the club's appearance record and is targeting top spot in both charts by the end of the season.

The club's records show 60 of the 100 goals have come at home and 40 away. Seventy-nine were scored in the NCEL Premier Division, with three in the FA Cup, four in the FA Vase, six in the NCEL League Cup and eight in the S&H Senior Cup. They have come against 39 different opponents, Bottesford Town conceding most often with 12, followed by Penistone Church with eight and Thackley with seven. Albion Sports and Hallam have each conceded six.

In six years with the club, Dunne has twice topped the scoring charts and won numerous Player of the Season awards in recognition of his all-round contribution alongside his goals.
