The FA Vase second qualifying round took centre stage across the South West Peninsula League, leaving clubs either into the national draw or turning back to league matters. Bridport were among the happiest, beating Badshot Lea 3-1 after an initial scoreline error was corrected by the club, and now await Monday's draw for the first round proper. "What a performance, The Bees once again pull out a fabulous result against higher level opposition," the club said, naming Luke King as their man of the match for a display that included a few knocks "to his konk".
Elburton Villa also progressed, beating higher-league Sidmouth Town 3-1 at Haye Road with goals from Colton, Hamson and Brown, Jimmy taking the player of the match award. Camelford won 4-1 away at Torrington to reach the first round proper on 10 October, while Honiton Town won 2-0 at Torpoint to go through, John Collier's match report separately hailing an unrelated 3-1 league win over Elburton as the best Honiton performance he had seen in eighteen months, built on a Harris header, an own goal and a first goal for the club from Newell.
Middlezoy Rovers beat Ilfracombe Town 2-1, Ed Stephens and Ferran McAdam scoring, with McAdam's effort marked as a first-team debut goal and Lewis Jennings named man of the match.
A number of South West Peninsula League sides bowed out of the competition. Crediton United lost 6-1 away at Torridgeside and exited the competition, their reserves also beaten 2-0 at Westexe Rangers in the league. Cullompton Rangers suffered defeat away at Newquay, manager Richard Pears having given a pre-match interview before the tie, though their second team recovered spirits with a 6-2 league win at home to Morchard Bishop. Sticker also fell, beaten by Newton Abbot Spurs with Evan Tresidder's penalty their only reply, the club wishing Spurs well in the next round. Wendron United travelled to Brixham in the same round, having confirmed player sponsorships for Chris Shadforth and Sam Jewell earlier in the week.
