FA Cup qualifying reshapes the National League South calendar

The FA Cup third qualifying round left the National League South with a longer to-do list than usual. Dorking Wanderers beat Chatham Town 1-0 at Meadowbank through Harry Pinchard's corner that nobody touched — the second time in under a month he has scored directly from a flag kick, as the club noted. Dover Athletic won 2-1 at Hanwell Town, Luke Baptiste opening the scoring and Decarrey Sheriff settling it on 75 minutes in front of a record Hanwell attendance of 1,057. Monday's draw then paired the two together at the Megger Community Stadium on 17 October, a week after they meet in the league at the same ground.

That quirk is only the start of the fixture reshuffling. Dorking Wanderers confirmed their home game with Hampton & Richmond Borough moves to Tuesday 3 November, 7.45pm. Truro City, 4-0 winners over Cirencester Town in front of 1,638 and drawn away at Sutton United, have pushed their home meeting with Billericay Town to Tuesday 17 November. Farnham Town's trip to Chelmsford City is off, the Clarets having beaten Brackley Town through Denzelle Olopade and Nathan Ralph and been handed a tie at Wimborne Town. Hemel Hempstead Town lose their 17 October home fixture because Torquay United progressed; the Gulls won 1-0 at Tonbridge Angels through Matt Worthington and host Oxford City next. Chesham United beat Real Bedford 4-3 and will welcome Forest Green Rovers to The Meadow. Salisbury thrashed Dulwich Hamlet 5-0 to reach the fourth qualifying round for the first time since their 2015 reformation, and were first out of the hat against Eastbourne Borough.

Not everyone survived. Horsham led at Plymouth Parkway through Ronan Silva's first goal for the club before losing 2-1, a second successive exit at this stage. Ebbsfleet United went out at home to Sholing, Braintree Town were beaten by AFC Rushden & Diamonds and Dagenham & Redbridge fell at Brentwood Town.

The week's biggest departure came at Farnham. Owen Dean, 22, joined Yeovil Town for an undisclosed fee after meeting a release clause, leaving with 214 appearances and 91 goals. "We could not have done any more to convince Owen to stay," chairman Harry Hugo said. Braintree Town also lost Anisius Lewis to Aldershot Town, while Slough Town added Elijah Oladunjoye on loan from Aldershot and Jamie Odegah from Luton Town.
