Ely City's form makes them the team to watch in the Thurlow Nunn Premier

Ely City delivered the result of the week in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division, travelling to early pace-setters Stowmarket Town and leaving with a 4-1 win the club described as blowing away the leaders. Before kick-off both sides observed a minute's silence for four-year-old Noah Wood, who died last week in Brantham. Alfie Rogers headed the Robins ahead from a Dom Hunt long throw inside twelve minutes, and although Stowmarket equalised almost immediately, a second Hunt throw led to a Stowmarket own goal to restore the lead. Stephen Pereira added a third right before the break after a smart save-and-release move from goalkeeper Ben Newton, and Sam Townshend rounded off the scoring in the 90th minute. Newton was named man of the match for a string of saves either side of half-time.

That followed an earlier 1-1 home draw against March Town United — the sides' fourth meeting already this season — where Tom Rigby's strike was cancelled out by a stoppage-time equaliser from Toby Allen. Ben Newton was again singled out for praise after keeping the scoreline level with a series of saves before the late concession.

Elsewhere in the division, Dereham Town beat Mildenhall Town 1-0, with Mildenhall's director of football Jon Sadler describing it afterwards as a tough, scrappy game decided by what he called a fluke goal. Wisbech Town saw off Brantham Athletic 2-1, with Ryan Lennon collecting the supporters' club man of the match award, while Ipswich Wanderers were held 2-2 at home by Haverhill Rovers, who twice came from behind. Great Yarmouth Town picked up a 1-0 win at Woodbridge Town, with Jake Spooner converting from the penalty spot. Thetford Town won 4-0 away at Walsham Le Willows, while Downham Town beat Stowmarket Town 1-0 at home in a separate fixture.

In cup competition, Mildenhall Town defeated Harleston Town 2-1 in the League Challenge Cup, Charlie Collard earning the man of the match award for a strong defensive display, while Downham Town exited the same competition on penalties, losing 5-3 after a 1-1 draw. Harleston Town also exited the FA Cup at the hands of Real Bedford, though the club reflected with pride on how their cup run had unfolded.
