Dronfield Town's 506 farewell to Chris Milly stands out in United Counties week

The biggest crowd of the United Counties weekend went to Dronfield Town, and it came for a goodbye. Chris Milly's last match as manager, after ten years in charge, drew 506 to Stonelow, which the club described as the Step 6 crowd of the weekend. The club's match report is headlined "Millington signs off with thumping win over Dunkirk", and Milly was given a guard of honour at the final whistle. The club said it had even run out of beer, "which is not heard of at our humble community club", and credited the volunteers in the kitchen and bar as its "only rock stars".

Lewis Naylor takes over for the trip to West Bridgford on Saturday 10 October, and the club has already published a first interview with its new manager.

Other grounds were quieter, in more than one sense. Sleaford Town drew 0-0 with Maltby Main in front of 209 at the BPH Stadium and had the better of the second half. Manager Jamie McGhee said his side were "in the right areas and probing well" but that the ball "just kept dropping out of reach". He also started himself in midfield, saying the team had been "a little light in the defensive area" and needed calm and experience. Pinxton and Louth Town also finished goalless, with 96 present. Louth keeper Alex Lait fractured his jaw around the 75th minute, according to the club, and played on to the end.

Southwell City had a goalless draw of their own, which the club called frustrating after spurning "so many good chances". They then beat Pinchbeck United 3-0, through Casburn, Okoye and Bowles. It was their ninth clean sheet in 14 league games, which the club says, citing NonLeagueHQ, tops the list across Steps 1 to 7. They now go to Wolverhampton for the first round proper of the FA Vase.

The floodlights at Selston caused the week's one postponement. The club said the league had called off its midweek game with Clipstone because of a floodlight issue, adding that the lights do work. Clipstone's own notice cited a problem with the facility. They went to Cotgrave instead, having signed Ethan Wiesztort from Sherwood Colliery. Sherwood waived the seven-day wait, and manager Cottee called him an attacking player "we are desperate for".

Elsewhere, Harrowby United beat Gedling Miners Welfare 2-0 before a crowd of 170. Gedling's own verdict was "another loss and not good enough again".
