Droitwich Spa hold second-placed Thornbury Town with ten men in tight Hellenic week

The result that best caught the week in the Hellenic Premier Division came on Tuesday evening at Mundy Fields, where Droitwich Spa left second-placed Thornbury Town with a 1-1 draw. They had been reduced to ten men before half-time.

Thornbury took the lead from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute, according to the Droitwich report, after Alex Dugmore blocked the ball with his head and it struck his hand. Dugmore equalised from a corner four minutes later. Perry Moss was then sent off for a challenge on Jake Goodfield, a decision the club's report described as influenced by Goodfield's reaction. Droitwich say they held out through a second half in which they could have stolen the win. The result lifted them to 18th, out of the bottom two. Goodfield was named Thornbury's man of the match, and Dugmore took the award for Droitwich.

That followed a 3-1 home defeat by Cirencester Town on Saturday, in which Sam Carey scored Droitwich's only goal. Cirencester were then beaten 2-0 by Roman Glass St George in midweek, a result the Centurions' own account framed against their FA Cup tie at Truro City on Saturday.

Draws ran through the programme. Cinderford Town came from behind to draw 1-1 with Stourport Swifts, Ryan Hillier's header arriving in the final minute. Manager Sooty said afterwards: "Drawing too many will cost us", noting four draws from six home games. Debutant Jordan Annear was denied by a fine save, and Capes went off with an injury the manager feared was a bad one.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town drew 2-2 at Tuffley Rovers on Tuesday, Alfie Presley scoring both of their goals after his brace in the 3-0 win over Corsham Town on Saturday. Jacob Eakers equalised for Tuffley with a 25-yard strike. Hereford Pegasus and Pershore Town 88 played out a goalless draw, while Fairford Town and Hallen drew 1-1.

At the foot of the table, Cribbs lost 1-0 at Highworth Town in the Wiltshire club's first league game back at their renovated ground. Chairman Nick Veale said he had accepted the resignation of manager Jack Harding-Dancy after the match, with assistant Ash Kendall and coach Liam O'Donoghue taking charge. In their first game under the interim pair, Cribbs lost 4-1 to Fairford, for whom new loanee Lewis Middleton scored a hat-trick.
