There was no shortage of goals across the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division this week, but the story that ran through the division was one of transition and reaction. AFC Welwyn exited the Gladwish Trophy 3-2 at Redbourn, a defeat manager Myles Anderson described as coming after "a much more important purpose" than the result itself, using the tie to give game time to players short of minutes or returning from injury. Anderson singled out MOTM Freddie Bellinger before turning attention swiftly to league business, and the response was emphatic: a 2-0 win over Arlesey Town at Hertford Town, with goals from Noyan and Samuel Adetiba making it back-to-back league victories, watched by an attendance of 102.
Elsewhere the scorelines told their own story. Sawbridgeworth Town produced the biggest win of their season, coming from behind to beat opponents 3-8 with seven goals arriving in the second half alone, Callum Fisher claiming a hat-trick and the match ball. Harlow Town beat Redbourn Rovers 5-2, with Reece Simpson voted Player of the Match by supporters after a display that had already yielded a goal highlight from the club's win over Potton United. Biggleswade United's women's first team were even more clinical, winning 8-0 at home with Jess Moore scoring four and Kayleigh Gray completing a hat-trick.
The Gladwish Challenge Trophy shaped much of the midweek programme. Colney Heath progressed with a 3-0 win over Old Bradwell United, goals from Joseph Caffery, Curtis Dibley and Ejjayha sealing what the club called a dominant second-half display, and the Magpies noted they now sit fifth in the table on 15 points after their opening weeks. Potton United also advanced, winning 0-1 on the road, while Kings Langley won 2-1 away with George Hughes named man of the match. Kempston Rovers, by contrast, lost 0-2 in their tie against Baldock Town.
Potton United also moved to clarify matters off the pitch, confirming they had raised no complaint with the FA or police following their fixture against Harlow Town.
