Consett's Calvin Smith reaches 600 appearances

Consett midfielder Calvin Smith made his 600th appearance for the club on Tuesday night, coming on in the 78th minute of a 4-0 home win over Stocksbridge Park Steels at Belle View. The club said he is only the second player in its 127-year history to reach the landmark, and that the 39-year-old now has Jeff Sugden's long-held record of 635 in his sights.

Smith replaced Marc Costello to warm applause from the Belle View crowd. Isaac Walker scored a hat-trick, his first for the club, with Donny Holdsworth also on the scoresheet. The victory saw Consett bounce back from Saturday's defeat to Matlock.

Steels goalkeeper Oliver Wood, who made several saves, had only joined on loan from Leeds United earlier that day.
