Clapton mark first Essex Senior League win as Gordon departs

For Clapton Community, the week carried both an ending and a beginning. On Tuesday night at the Old Spotted Dog, the club's Men's First Team recorded their first win at this level after three promotions, beating Saffron Walden Town 1-0. It also proved the last appearance for Cameron Gordon, who is moving to Australia after three seasons, 22 goals and 15 assists, and a role in last season's play-off final win. Manager Geoff Ocran paid tribute in his programme notes, calling Gordon "a player for the big occasions" who "bought into what the club represents on and off the field." Gordon himself reflected on the club's pull: "Once I finally stepped foot here at the Dog, the fans, and everyone around the club, it's what I play football for: the sense of community." Jack Francis was named player of the match. Four days later, Clapton Community were beaten 2-1 away at Hullbridge Sports, with Julian Austin taking the away POTM vote and Archie McFadden picked by Hullbridge's fans as their man of the match.

Elsewhere in the division, Great Wakering Rovers finally opened their league account with a 4-0 win over Sporting Bengal United, Shaun Gittleson scoring before the break and Brandy Makuendi, Thomas Barton and Jack Mitchell completing the rout after it. Their ladies' side then made it back-to-back wins, beating Emerson & Upminster 3-2 thanks to a Emelia Beevers brace either side of a Lola Adams strike, with the team, as the club noted, playing "with bare eleven."

At the top, Frenford's unbeaten start ended emphatically at Heybridge Swifts, beaten 6-1, with Callum Boylan claiming a hat-trick and Zack Littlejohn contributing a goal and three assists from centre-half. Frenford had earlier claimed a 4-2 win at Halstead Town, despite playing the final twenty minutes with ten men following Kevin Krans's red card.
