Bromyard Town's week of comebacks lifts them into Hellenic mid-table

There was little to suggest Bromyard Town were building towards anything remarkable when they were sin-binned and under pressure early on at Chipping Sodbury Town, even after Danny Barnes put them ahead inside ten minutes, debutant Sam Judge added a second after being released by captain Nath Myers, and Dan Green made it three before the break. Chipping Sodbury Town hauled themselves back to 3-2 with a long-range volley and a scrappy free-kick, and a missed penalty from Rich Smith kept the contest alive, but Bromyard Town held out for a 3-2 win that manager Jamie Wall's side badly needed after their Bank Holiday defeat to Ludlow Town.

Things grew even wilder when league leaders Alcester Town visited Delahay Meadow. Bromyard Town welcomed league leaders Alcester Town to Delahay Meadow and found themselves 3-1 down with ten minutes remaining, only to score three times in the closing stages, including an overhead kick from Myers and a 95th-minute winner from Dan Olaloko, to win 4-3. Danny Barnes picked up another man-of-the-match award, his third assist of the game recognised by the club's sponsors, while for Alcester Town it was a first defeat of the campaign after an unbeaten start that had included a league victory over Clanfield (85).

A third fixture in the space of days, away at Newent Town, asked one question too many of tired legs. Bromyard Town fell behind early and never reached the levels of their previous two performances, but twice came from behind through Jack Griffiths-Perry, converting a Dec Bibb free-kick, and Bibb himself, flicking home a Barnes delivery with five minutes left. Bibb was denied a winner when his follow-up was cleared off the line, and Olaloko's late effort clipped the crossbar, leaving the sides level at 2-2. Bibb reflected afterwards that the side had gone into the game as favourites for the first time this season and had not prepared or played with their usual identity, while praising Newent Town's resistance.

Seven points from a possible nine moved Bromyard Town to 13 points from ten games, sitting close to a congested mid-table that includes Carterton, who themselves beat Stonehouse Town and thrashed Ludlow Town 4-1 during the same spell. Elsewhere, Cheltenham Saracens continued their FA Vase run before falling in the league to Lydney, and Sharpness bounced between a heavy defeat at Wantage Town and a Tuesday night recovery. For Bromyard Town, taking points after falling behind in three successive matches showed a resilience that had been missing earlier in the campaign.
