Bromyard Town take seven points from nine, with a late draw at Newent

The week in the Hellenic League's Division One belonged to Bromyard Town, who collected seven points from nine and did it in a way that left their manager wondering whether the effort had cost them in the end.

It started the previous Saturday with a 3–2 win at Chipping Sodbury Town, where goals from Danny Barnes, Sam Judge and Dan Green made it 3–0 before the hosts pulled two back. Then came Tuesday at Delahay Meadow. Trailing league leaders Alcester Town 3–1 with fewer than 10 minutes left, Bromyard reduced the deficit through an own goal, levelled with captain Nath Myers' 92nd-minute overhead kick and won it in the 95th minute through substitute Dan Olaloko, for a 4–3 victory.

The cost showed on Saturday at Wildsmith Meadow. Newent Town led inside the opening 10 minutes, and Jack Griffiths-Perry levelled around the 35-minute mark, converting a Dec Bibb free-kick for his third goal of the season. Newent skipper Weir restored the home lead from a free-kick with about 20 minutes left. Bibb then flicked in a Barnes free-kick five minutes from time for his first goal for the club, making it 2–2. Late chances followed: Bibb had an effort cleared off the line and Olaloko clipped the crossbar.

Manager Jamie Wall took responsibility for how flat his side looked. "Tuesday took a lot out of us, physically and emotionally," he said. "Looking back on it, I probably should have made Thursday a much more relaxed session because you could see today that we were leggy." Bibb was blunter, saying Bromyard had gone in as favourites for the first time this season and "didn't play with any sort of identity".

The draw leaves Bromyard 12th on 13 points from 10 games, level with Swindon Supermarine Reserves, Stonehouse Town and Redditch Borough and two points behind fourth-placed Carterton.

Carterton had their own productive week. They beat Ludlow Town 4–1 and then won 6–3 at Swindon Supermarine Reserves, where Kyle Chester and Zach Scott both scored twice, with Ciaran McGarry and Fin Baker also on the scoresheet.

Newent were back in action on Tuesday and lost 1–0 at home to Bewdley Town, Jack Bailey scoring. Bewdley had won 2–0 at Shortwood United, through Elliott Lees and Myles Hall.

At Cheltenham Saracens, a 4–3 defeat to Lydney Town was followed by a 1–1 draw with Clanfield (85). Lydney's goals included efforts from Zac Pinchard, Abdul Ibrahim and Lewis Thompson. Saracens also added midfielder Dom Kent, who joins from Tuffley Rovers and Shortwood United, and goalkeeper Lewis Adams.

Chipping Sodbury Town drew 1–1 at Clanfield and then lost 4–2 at home to Sharpness on Tuesday.
