Bromyard Town climb to eighth on the back of defensive discipline

The most telling number in Bromyard Town's week was not the two goals Jack Griffiths-Perry scored at Studley but the one their goalkeeper barely had to think about. The 2–1 win took The Yard to eighth in Hellenic League Division One, with 16 points from 11 games, and extended an unbeaten league run to four matches: Chipping Sodbury Town, Alcester Town, Newent Town and now Studley.

Studley, by the club's account, had most of the ball. Manager Jamie Wall said his side still felt in control. "It's probably the best we've played in that aspect all season," he said of the defending, adding that Studley's rotations and movement would have "played straight through" a disorganised team. Liam Higgins's delivery from the left set up Griffiths-Perry's volley for the opener, and Sam Judge created the second. Studley pulled one back around 10 minutes from time when a free-kick deflected in off Danny Barnes, and Bromyard saw out the closing stages. Wall named Louis Humphries man of the match and praised the changes made at the back because of absentees.

The run began after what the club called a difficult opening following promotion to Step 6. Bromyard are now level on points with seventh-placed Swindon Supermarine Reserves, and two behind Cheltenham Saracens and Bewdley Town. October brings seven fixtures across four competitions, starting with a cup rematch at Delahay Meadow against Alcester, whom they beat 4–3 in the league through Nath Myers' 92nd-minute overhead kick and Dan Olaloko's 95th-minute winner. Wall called it "a free hit".

Alcester, meanwhile, beat Newent Town 1–0 at Stratford Road, L. O'Hare getting the goal, before losing on penalties after a 4–4 draw at Griff & Coton Manor. Clanfield (85) won 3–0 away at Bewdley Town, and Carterton came from behind to win 2–1 at Lydney Town, Kyle Chester and Fin Baker scoring. Cheltenham Saracens beat Shortwood 5–1, with goals for Ryan Dobbins, Luke Hitchman, Joe Richards, Tommy Bond and Lucas Price, and then signed striker Alfie Bradshaw from Stonehouse Town.

At Sharpness, G Thomas and J Tainton scored in a 2–0 home win, the first team's first clean sheet of the season. Newent Town also announced the signing of Casey Gormley, who has come through youth setups at Worcester City and Evesham United.
