Bromsgrove make it eight in a row as Trophy reaches first round

Few sides at Step 3 can match the momentum currently carried by Bromsgrove Sporting. Tim Flowers' side made it eight wins in a row with a 1-0 FA Trophy victory at Racing Club Warwick, Billy Shaw's 82nd-minute goal enough to see off a stubborn home side. Flowers was typically unimpressed by the performance despite the run nearing a club record, insisting there is little time to dwell given trips to Bury and Real Bedford loom in October alongside a home game with Kettering Town.

Penalties settled plenty across the Southern League. Chippenham Town were eliminated by Weymouth on spot-kicks after a 2-2 draw in which Alex Kieh's 84th-minute leveller forced the shootout. Malvern Town also exited on penalties, beaten 4-3 by Mickleover after finishing 1-1 in 90 minutes, while Wimborne Town progressed at Moneyfields thanks to two Lewis Williams goals and a Joe Smith penalty, and now travel to Taunton Town in the next round.

Across the Isthmian divisions, Cray Wanderers enjoyed one of the club's finest weeks, following an FA Cup win at National League South leaders Maidstone United with a 5-4 penalty victory at Cheshunt in the Trophy. Uxbridge, meanwhile, beat Lewes 2-1 in the Southern League Premier South, surviving a controversial disallowed goal in a bizarre passage of play involving a mistimed offside flag. Dartford maintained their unbeaten run in all competitions with a 3-0 win at Leiston, taking Ben Greenhalgh's side into October chasing an outright lead of the Isthmian Premier.

In the Northern Premier League, Guiseley made it three successive matches with four or more goals, beating Bamber Bridge 4-2 to set up a first-round trip to Warrington Rylands. Curzon Ashton were similarly ruthless, seeing off Stalybridge Celtic 3-1, while Warrington Town bowed out on penalties to Ashton United following a 2-2 draw. Halesowen Town were among the weekend's more comfortable qualifiers, beating Wellingborough Town 2-0 to extend a run that now stretches across three cup competitions this season.

With the third qualifying round complete, Monday's draw sends clubs across all three leagues into the first round proper on 24 October, the competition now offering a rare shared stage for sides from the Isthmian, Southern and Northern Premier set-ups.
