Brocton striker Reg Smith reaches 200 club goals with a hat-trick

Brocton striker Reg Smith scored his 200th goal for the club on 28 October, reaching the milestone with three goals, according to the club.

Smith is now fourth on Brocton's list of record goalscorers, behind Gary Fife (259), Phil Hopson (224) and Tommy Bowers (211). Asked about the achievement, he gave a one-word response: "Finally". The club noted he scored 20 goals in an injury-hit 2025/2026 campaign and had recently been denied by strong goalkeeping. He was critical of his own finishing, saying: "I didn't connect properly with any of them."

Smith has 24 goals this season, already more than last year's total, along with six assists. On Fife's club record, he said: "We have the rest of the season." Asked about his fellow strikers, he said "they are doing some of the running for me".

Alex Curtis praised his forward: "Reg embodies everything that is Brocton Football Club - loyalty, commitment, desire, work rate. I have no doubt that this will continue." Curtis put the improved output down to fitness: "He's fit. He struggled with injury last season and yet still scored 20 goals. This season he is fighting fit and we can all see the difference."
