Brigg Town and Goole share a goalless draw in NCEL Division One

The week's biggest fixture in NCEL Division One ended without a goal. Brigg Town went to Goole on Tuesday 29 September for what Goole called a top-of-the-table clash, and the points were shared in a 0-0 draw. Goole's own tweets put the attendance at 425, the sixth of the ten highest crowds in the division this season to be recorded at the VPG. Brigg, following their 4-2 derby win over Winterton Rangers the previous Saturday, were described by Goole after the draw as leaders, with the Vikings fourth.

That derby was the other half of Brigg's week. Winterton manager Robbie Start called it "a game of what could have been", and Rangers bounced back on Wednesday with a 2-0 home win over Kinsley Boys. Tyler Hamilton, named man of the match, had a goal and an assist. Start said afterwards that the result "shows what type of lads we've got at the club now". Goole travel to Kinsley on Saturday 3 October.

At Athersley Recreation the football was secondary to the farce. Their Sheffield Senior Cup tie against Silkstone United was abandoned with Rec leading 7-0, and the club apologised, saying it was a different problem from the one the week before and asking what "the third thing" would be. The Sheffield FA committee then ruled that Athersley would progress, citing the score and the lack of time for a replay. They were drawn at home to Hallam in the next round, now fixed for Wednesday 7 October. The club also said it was disappointed by the cancellation of its annual community event, and that Nat Dyer had left after an approach from another NCEL club.

Other results came in bigger numbers. Club Thorne Colliery won 0-8 on the road, a week after losing 3-2 at Crowle Colts. Field Olympic beat Immingham Town 6-0, with Danny Edwards scoring a hat-trick, and earlier had a 3-0 win at Hemsworth Miners Welfare. Wombwell Town beat Immingham 6-1, making it five wins in five. Armthorpe Welfare followed a 1-1 draw with Wakefield with a 2-0 win at Ilkley. Immingham did have good news off the pitch, announcing that floodlights at Woodlands are working again after more than 30 years.

On the managerial front, South Leeds announced that Reece Mudd returns as first-team manager, with no interim or caretaker involved. Goole signed winger Joel Ward from Staveley Miners Welfare, and Winterton re-signed full back Danny Buttle.
