Bourne Town reach FA Trophy second round for the first time

Bourne Town progressed to the second round of the FA Trophy for the first time in their seventh appearance in the competition.

A crowd of 302 watched in torrential rain as the Wakes beat their Step 3 visitors, Banbury, 1-0. Dan Forbes scored the only goal in the 6th minute, smashing home a volley from eight yards after Allen's cross from the left. Banbury had a player sent off for a high, late challenge on Eyett in the 52nd minute, and the Wakes had a second goal disallowed for offside soon afterwards.

In the 92nd minute the visitors put the ball in the net through Connor Ferguson, but the flag went up for offside. The club's match report, normally reserved for the matchday programme, was published early because of the occasion. Aaron Eyett was named player of the match.

Elsewhere, Grantham Town forward Lee Shaw scored a hat-trick, taking his tally for the club to 99 goals, just one shy of a century. The club said it was his first hat-trick for the Gingerbreads since the away match at Buxton on 18 November 2017. Nantwich Town's Paddy Kennedy was presented with an award by the NTISA for reaching 100 appearances, becoming the first Irishman to hit that milestone for the club.
