Berks County exit the Vase on penalties as Combined Counties sides scrap for points

The week's sharpest edge belonged to Berks County, who went out of the FA Vase on penalties. The Saturday evening tie finished 2-2 against AFC Varndenians in front of 134 people, and the club said afterwards that it dipped out in the shoot-out, thanking those who came down. The club had set the night up as an occasion: a 7.45pm kick-off, a half-time meat raffle with a ticket for every entrant, and a reminder that the FA does not allow season tickets or membership cards at Vase games.

Spartans Youth were also in Vase action, losing 1-0 at Snodland Town before responding in the league with a 4-0 win over Winchmore Hill.

The most productive side of the week was Wembley. They won 6-1 on one day, with striker Sam Langan named player of the match for a hat-trick, and won 4-2 in a later fixture. The club noted that Langan has 15 goals in 17 appearances this season, and that Calvin Osborne reached 300 appearances for the club. Their Middlesex Cup campaign starts with a second-round tie on Tuesday night, and Spelthorne visit Vale Farm in the league.

Goals were harder to come by as Langley and PFC Victoria played out a 0-0 draw, with Alexandre Lampreia taking player of the match for Langley. PFC Victoria then lost 5-2 to Camden United. Brook House beat Woodley United 2-0, and Woodley named Harry Wardle their player of the match despite describing Brook House as a strong side.

Holmer Green beat Oxhey Jets 4-1 and put out highlights of what they called an emphatic win. Colliers Wood United won 2-1 at Edgware & Kingsbury. London Samurai Rovers drew 2-2 away, with goals from Melanarkitis and Suzuki, then won 5-2 at home thanks to goals from Baek, Nichols, Melanarkitis, Oda and Harvey, three of them in the closing stages.

Molesey drew 1-1 at Staines & Lammas (Middlesex) before losing 4-0 to Epsom & Ewell in the Southern Combination Cup, and now host Maidenhead Town in Division 1 on 17 October. Maidenhead had earned an injury-time equaliser against Eagles Land after substitute Ryan Adams, named man of the match, helped turn a game they were struggling in. Westside lost 2-1 and 3-1 to Everett Rovers in their two fixtures.
