Belper Town re-sign Garnett from Long Eaton and add Knowles as Broadhead leaves

Belper Town have re-signed striker Evan Garnett from Long Eaton.

Garnett scored 52 goals in the last two seasons for Long Eaton and won the NPL Midlands Golden Boot last season, according to the club. He previously scored 32 goals in 91 appearances for Belper and is described by the club as a local lad.

Manager Lee Attenborough has worked with Garnett before and said they had kept in regular contact over five years. In a squad update, Attenborough said Garnett "turned down much better financial offers and also longer contracts to sign for us" and has returned "as a different type of striker".

Captain Jack Broadhead has left Belper Town for Sherwood Colliery. The club said he represented it as captain on more than 100 occasions. Attenborough said Broadhead's game time had been limited this season given the form of Louis Keenan and the balance of a left-footed centre-back, and that it felt the right time for all parties.

Jack Edwards has also departed this week in search of regular minutes closer to home, with Attenborough explaining that Edwards is considering joining the fire service, which could affect his availability on Saturdays.

The Nailers have further added Charlie Knowles, who went straight into the starting line-up against Rushden & Diamonds on Saturday to provide what Attenborough called a different profile in central midfield.
