AEK Boco tightened their grip on top spot in the Western League with two commanding home wins. A 3-0 win over Bristol Telephones under the lights at The Shield on Tuesday, with goals from Matt Isaacs, Nathan Legge and Jack Ball, took the Bears to the summit, according to the club. On Saturday they kept it going with a 5-0 defeat of Nailsea United. James Whitting, Joe Burch, Harrison Rogers and Ellis Bodman all got on the scoresheet, while Jack Gore was named player of the match in another shutout.
The margin stands out against what Nailsea United had done only days earlier. Beaten late by Keynsham Town on 3 October despite, in the club's account, dominating the game, they reversed an earlier 1-0 loss to Odd Down with a 5-0 win in front of a crowd of 180. Kelson Pollard took the match ball with another hat-trick, and Dylan Whittle added the fifth. Their Saturday visit to AEK Boco had been billed by the club as a meeting with the table-toppers, and it went the other way.
The heaviest scoreline of the week belonged to Longwell Green Sports, who beat Welton Rovers 13-0 at Shellards Road. Sonny Passco scored four, and Chris Alway's assist tally was revised to five after the club reviewed video footage. Welton Rovers responded on Saturday with a 0-0 draw at home to Calne Town, their first point of the season, with Saracen Yates singled out at the back.
In the FA Vase, Amesbury Town beat Avonmouth 1-0 to reach the hat for the next round. Longwell Green Sports also hosted St Blazey in the competition on Saturday.
At Step 6 elsewhere, Bristol Telephones won 3-2 against Wincanton Town after a couple of defeats, having led 3-0 with 20 minutes left. Almondsbury beat Cadbury Heath by the same score, the visitors scoring twice in the second half through Riley Gifford Hobbs and debutant Jayln Johnson. Radstock Town won at Warminster Town, where goalkeeper Ollie King kept a clean sheet on his league debut.
